Privacy Policy

This policy describes how Cleanup (“the app”, “we”, “us”) handles information on your Android device and this website. It is written to match what the app actually does. If that ever changes, this policy will change with it.

1. Who we are

Cleanup is an Android storage cleaner. It helps you find duplicate photos and videos, large files, screenshots and similar items, then delete or compress what you choose.

2. Your media stays on your device

Cleanup scans photos, videos and downloads to find duplicates, similar shots, large files and other cleanup candidates. That work happens entirely on your phone.

We do not upload your media, thumbnails, filenames, file paths or file contents to our servers. We do not operate a server that receives your library. Hashes used to detect duplicates are computed and cached on the device.

3. Information we process

On your device (not sent to us):

  • Photos, videos and download metadata needed to scan, compare, delete or compress items you select.
  • Content hashes and perceptual hashes, stored in a local cache so repeat scans do not redo unchanged files.
  • Your settings and a history of cleanups you completed on that device.
  • Storage measurements from Android (used space, free space, category sizes).

Sent over the network:

  • Usage analytics (Firebase Analytics): events such as “a scan started” or “12 files were deleted, totalling 40 MB”. These are counts, sizes, durations and category names only — never photos, videos, filenames or paths.
  • Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): technical information about app failures so we can fix them. Crash reports do not include your media.
  • Remote Config (Firebase): product settings such as how often a prompt appears. Remote Config can only make the app less pushy. It cannot change prices, trial length, permissions, or what we do with your files.
  • Purchases (Google Play Billing): if you start a trial or subscribe, Google Play processes the payment. Cleanup never sees your full payment card details. Prices shown in the app come from Play.
  • Support email: if you write to us, we receive whatever you include in that message.

Firebase and Google Play may also process standard technical identifiers (for example an app instance ID, device type, OS version, country, and — for Analytics — an advertising ID if the device provides one). Cleanup does not show ads, does not use this data for advertising, and does not sell it.

4. Permissions

  • Photos and videos: used only to list, compare and, if you confirm, delete or compress items in your library. On Android 14+ you can grant access to selected items only.
  • Notifications: requested only if you turn storage reminders on in Settings.
  • Usage access: needed only for the App storage screen, which explains it and still works without it.
  • Internet: used for Google Play Billing and Firebase. User media is never transmitted.

Cleanup does not request All Files Access (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE).

5. Why we use this information

  • To scan storage, show measured results, and carry out deletions or compression you confirm.
  • To remember settings and cleanup history on the device.
  • To understand which features are used (counts and sizes only) and to fix crashes.
  • To process subscriptions through Google Play, if you choose to subscribe.
  • To respond if you contact us.

6. Sharing

We do not sell your data. The app does not show ads.

We use these processors to operate the app:

  • Google LLC — Google Play, Play Billing, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, Firebase Remote Config. Their handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the app, our users, or our legal rights.

7. Retention

  • Media never leaves the device, so we have nothing to retain on a server.
  • On-device hash cache, settings and cleanup history stay until you clear app data or uninstall.
  • Android backup, if you use it, includes settings only — not your media, hash cache or cleanup history.
  • Analytics and crash data are retained by Google/Firebase according to their product settings and policies.
  • Support emails are kept only as long as needed to reply and follow up.

8. Deletion and compression

Nothing is removed unless you choose it. On current Android versions the system shows its own confirmation before files leave the device. If you decline that dialog, nothing is deleted and we do not record a cleanup.

Compression re-encodes a copy on the device. Originals stay until you decide otherwise. Space saved is measured from the output file, not estimated as fact.

9. Your choices

  • You can deny or later revoke media, notification and usage-access permissions in Android Settings. Without media access, Cleanup cannot scan your library.
  • You can turn storage reminders off in the app.
  • You can uninstall Cleanup, which removes on-device app data.
  • You can manage or cancel a subscription in Google Play.
  • You can email us to ask what we hold from support messages, or to request that we delete that correspondence.

10. Children

Cleanup is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. International processing

Firebase and Google Play are operated by Google. Data they process may be stored or processed in the United States or other countries where Google operates. By using Cleanup you understand that this processing is necessary to provide analytics, crash reporting, configuration and (if you subscribe) billing.

12. This website

This website hosts information about Cleanup, including this policy and our terms. It does not receive your photos or videos. If the hosting provider or a contact form collects standard server logs or the details you submit, that information is used only to operate the site and reply to you.

13. Changes

If we change how Cleanup handles information, we will update this policy and the date above. The in-app Privacy Center and the Play Store Data Safety section will be updated to match.
